My reasons for inactivity

It has been nearly two months since my last blog post, and I am writing this more out of guilt than for any other reason. In one of my last posts, I wanted to research popular Java Web frameworks for a new side project. Not only is this endeavor still on my To-do list, but I also kind of lost interest in pursuing this.

To track my to-dos, I use a big whiteboard on a wall with a little list on the side with keywords (and sometime deadlines). This list now prominently includes my master’s thesis, which I am planning to do for the next 6 months. I am having difficulties getting into the topic (more on that in later posts) and other personal issues are taking much of my time. Not that I do not have time, I am having way to much free time right now (~90%), with only my job taking a few hours per week.

Long story short: I am not doing anything remotely productive at the moment, thus I do not have anything to write about that could fit into this blog. There are reasons for this, and they are really easy to explain: I am slightly burnt out. I have had a hard time at the beginning of the year to match deadlines, take exams and solve personal issues. And my body and mind both react to this by getting really lazy during times where I do not have that much to do.

I often think that I just need a vacation, but I seriously cannot think about investing money and time into it, while my to-do list is still full of work to do. I would not be fully relaxed, thinking about postponing important work.

But I am positive all of this is going to change soon. If you are still reading, here is what I will be working on in a few weeks, which might generate some more interesting and helpful blog entries:

  • Setting up (free) accounts for public cloud providers (Amazon, Google, Microsoft)
  • Deploying and setting up software on these clouds (using docker)
  • A little bit about honeypots (what is it, why use it, what I will do with them)

As always, thanks for reading and stay tuned!
